Mayo Clinic

Duration
January 2025 to May 2025
Problem
Physicians currently rely on a manually created document to compile patient information before oncology consultations. This process is time-consuming, inconsistent, and contributes to cognitive overload.
Goal
Mayo Clinic's current EHR system, EPIC, while comprehensive, presents challenges for physicians in efficiently extracting and synthesizing relevant patient information before consultations.
This AI-powered Smart Notes project will innovate the way physicians interact with patient data, transforming complex records into easily digestible summaries that support more efficient and informed pre-consultation review.
Physicians should be able to access key patient information quickly, clearly, and in a structured format to reduce cognitive load and make pre-consultation review more efficient.
My Roles
Wireframes
The idea was to make a dashboard of a few features which included Patient demographics, oncology history, subjective and objective notes and assessment and plan. After mixing and matching various layout designs, here are the finalized wireframes.

These wireframes went through a few more rounds of iterations based on the feedback received by the Mayo Clinic physicians.
High Fidelity Prototype
I prototyped how AI could enhance key components physicians need for a quick patient overview, using real data and simulating features like summarization, timeline visualization with avatars, chatbot interactions, and scan comparisons. The design focused on clarity and usability, with iterations shaped by physician feedback.

Affinity Mapping
Me and my teammate put together a figjam board during the ideation stage and came up with a problem statement.
